Dales residents woke up to beautiful snow scenes on Monday morning, however with the picturesque outlook came concerns over road safety and disruption to services.

Derbyshire Dales District Council warned that its waste and recycling collections had been affected by the hazardous road conditions, but advised people to still put out their bins on the usual day.

The authority stated that waste contractor Serco could take 24 hours to catch up with collections in some areas, but crews would work this Saturday to resume services.

The icy conditions meant Flagg Nursery School had to be closed for the day and firefighters from Matlock attended a car crash on the A615 at Wessington, at which a car had gone onto its side in the snow.

No-one was hurt in the accident.

More snow has been forecast for Friday and Saturday and the Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership is asking people to take extra care on the roads.

Derbyshire County Council has sent out gritters to keep roads as clear as possible during the cold snap.
