Wendy is honoured by Queen

An inspirational Dales woman who underwent a double mastectomy to avoid hereditary breast cancer has been honoured by the Queen.

Wendy Watson, of Over Haddon, Bakewell, was given an MBE in the New Year’s Honours List for her tireless efforts in campaigning against the disease.

The 57–year–old was the first in the country to undergo the pioneering procedure as a preventative measure.

She has since set up the National Hereditary Breast Cancer Helpline, a 24–hour service that given support to thousands of women afflicted with the illness.
