REVELLERS and shoppers are being warned to keep their purses safe after a spate of thefts across Chesterfield.
Thirteen people have been targeted by thieves at supermarkets across the area while eight people on nights-out in the town centre have had their purses stolen.
Since June eight purses have been stolen at Morrisons in Staveley, three at Morrisons in Brampton and one each at the Tesco Extra store and Sainsbury’s store.
The latest incident took place on September 8 on Corporation Street at 2.20am when a 31-year-old woman had items stolen from her handbag and on August 24 between 3pm and 3.30pm on 81-year-old woman had her purse stolen from her handbag while shopping in Morrisons at Staveley.
Officers are advising people to make sure they never leave handbags unattended and are giving out free purse chains.

A 22-year-old man from Manchester has been arrested on suspicion of attempted theft following an alleged purse snatch at Association Bar on August 12.
