The sun shone as villagers came out to enjoy a traditional celebration.
Birchover Carnival was the usual mixture of community–centred entertainment and activities, that had the whole village joining in.
There was music on Carnival Day from noon onwards with acts including Ashover Brass Band and Bakewell Silver Band and The Breaston Highlanders for the parade.
The procession was led by the Carnival Queen, Hannah Saxton, and her attendant, Emily Saxton.
James Rimmer, of the carnival committee, said: “The carnival committee was helped this year by staff from Dales Housing. This assistance formed part of a successful community project and all those taking part thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon, with lasting memories of a very successful day helping out in the Derbyshire Dales.”
After the parade the village green was the place to be with fairground rides and stalls, as well as performances from The Spectacular Knights of the Crusades, with the Legend of King Arthur Show.
Stanton–in–the–Peak Primary School’s PTA were on hand providing refreshments to raise funds for new IT equipment at the school.
Thanks was given to Dave Kennedy of Bakewell Music Shop for helping to organise the music on the evening and the many local businesses and organisations who donated funds including Birchover Parish Council, Birchover Stone, Enthovens, Catherine’s Green Farm Plants and Dales Housing. The raffle will be drawn at the next carnival meeting today, and a list of winners and companies who donated prizes will be available on Barn Farm Campsite’s Website.
