CELEBRITY millionaire Kavita Oberoi has officially opened a new £4.7m business centre in Shirebrook called The Tangent Business Hub.

The centre, at Brook Park industrial estate, has already started to attract established businesses and new, start-up companies with many joining in with the launch celebrations this month with IT and healthcare entrepreneur Kavita from Channel 4’s Secret Millionaire show.

Bolsover District Council, which masterminded the centre scheme to regenerate an area blighted by unemployment during the economic downturn, is delighted to see its plans come together to support opportunities for small-to-medium-sized businesses.

District Cllr Alan Tomlinson, council business chief, said: “We’re very proud of The Tangent which has been four years in the making. It offers everything from flexible rents to top class meeting facilities and we believe providing businesses with this type of accommodation and support is the way forward.”

The centre includes 34 units with offices and workshops and high speed broadband, three meeting rooms and a conference room and a shared lounge.

Cllr Tomlinson added: “Our aim is for the premises to become a thriving business centre for Shirebrook and the surrounding areas that will help support businesses as they grow and expand.”

The centre project has been funded with £900,000 from the district council and £3.8m from the European Regional Development Fund. The council is also offering half-price rent for the first year for local businesses who come forward during a limited period.
