Three men have been arrested on suspicion of hunting a wild animal with dogs in Clowne.

They were arrested by police on patrol who had stopped to check a suspicious vehicle on Rotherham Road, at around 8.15pm on Friday, September 28.

The men, a 46 year old and a 21 year old from Mexborough, and a 17 year old from Conisborough, have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Officers would like to trace a further two men who were in the area at the time.

The police can arrest anybody who they reasonably suspect to be hunting illegally, or who they think are about to do so under the Hunting Act 2004.

If a person is prosecuted and found guilty of an offence under the Hunting Act, they could be fined up to £5,000. The court also has powers to confiscate any dogs or equipment used in committing an offence.

Anyone with information should contact Derbyshire police on 101, the non emergency number, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
