Swim scheme is successful

The new Mercury sponsored learn to swim award scheme is proving so popular the lesson timetable has been extended to meet demand.

The team at Wirksworth Swimming Pool will introduce Saturday classes to the scheme, which was launched with financial support from the John Weston Charitable Fund and sponsorship from the Matlock Mercury.

It enables children to progress in small achievable steps and rewards them for developing an efficient stroke.

The pool has seen a surge in demand for lessons and from Saturday, March 2, it will reintroduce the Saturday morning swimming classes for the first time in several years.

Pool manager Glyn Booth said: “The lesson programme take up is very encouraging and we feel the time is right to introduce Saturday morning lessons.

“The success of our children’s swimming lesson programme is the most significant factor in ensuring the long term sustainability of the pool, which is operated by a not for profit charity, so the future already looks brighter.”

There will be classes for toddlers, beginners and intermediate swimmers. Further information is available by calling 01629 825704 or emailing info@wirksworthswimmingpool.co.uk
