FIREFIGHTERS freed a casualty from a road crash vehicle after a collision involving four motorists on the M1 motorway near Staveley and Bolsover.

The collision happened between Junctions 29a and 30 of the M1, about 6.25pm, on Friday, January 11, as fog descended on the region and temperatures plummeted.

A Derbyshire fire service spokesman said: “We received reports of a collision involving three vehicles and a heavy goods vehicle and one person trapped.”

Staveley firefighters attended the scene and the roof of a 4x4 vehicle had to be removed and one female casualty was released from the wreckage.

She was treated by paramedics and the ambulance service and taken to hospital by ambulance.

Witnesses to the collision can call Derbyshire police’s road traffic unit on 101 or its appeal line on (01773) 572929.
