CHESTERFIELD engineers treated talented school students to a tour of their foundry after the youngsters dazzled the company during a competition.
United Cast Bars, of Sheepbridge, set Chesterfield’s Parkside School pupils a challenge to create a digital publication to promote the company’s widest record-breaking 635mm diameter bar to the global market.
James Brand, United Cast Bar sales director, said: “We’re really impressed with the quality of all of the publications from the school which has a history of producing quality students with industrial-related talents.”
Over fifty students attempted to create a digital publication, ranging from a traditional newspaper article to an animated web publication and seven were shortlisted and treated to a tour of the foundry.
Pupils Lina Green and Rachel West thanked UCB and said it was really interesting to see the work put in to making something useful for people and businesses around the world.
The winning entry was a website publication created by Year 9 students Lauren Gaynor, Natasha Cope and Eve Hobson which can be viewed on the United Cast Bar Limited website.
A school spokesman said: “This was a marvellous opportunity for our students to be part of a ground breaking venture which showed how local business and education partnerships can work.”
