Runners raise thousands to beat cancer

STREETS turned into a sea of pink at the weekend as crowds of generous runners turned out to fight cancer.

Hundreds of women weaved through Chesterfield town centre in this year’s Race for Life to aid Cancer Research UK.

Organisers said Sunday’s run raised an estimated £125,000 for the charity.

Cancer Research UK spokesman Nicki Embleton said: “It was such a lovely day with a fantastic atmosphere.

“It was so nice seeing all the women – directly or indirectly affected by cancer – cross the finishing line.

“Their sponsorship will make such a difference in the fight against cancer.

“We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who was involved in the event.

“Roll on next year!”

Derbyshire Times photographer Bernard Jones was there to capture pictures of the race.
