Representatives of the Royal British Legion, the forces and the local community, turned out in atrocious weather for the service of dedication, which was conducted by the Rev Margaret Jones, vicar of Holy Trinity and Taxal churches.

John Cooke, chairman of the men’s section, and Jenny Woodward, chair of the women’s section, laid a wreath as leaders of Whaley Bridge Royal British Legion, while Cllr John Pritchard, chairman of Whaley Bridge Town Council, laid a wreath on behalf of the community and civic authorities.

Guests included Jackie Daly, Cheshire county secretary of the Royal British Legion, and Andrew Stokes, Executive Director and Chief Finance Officer at High Peak Borough Council, together with officers and staff of the horticulture department. In a speech later at Whaley Bridge Bowling Club, Cllr Pritchard thanked the officers of the Royal British Legion for organising the event, and council staff for ensuring this part of the work on the park was ready in time for the event.
