Precinct to get a new name

Controversial plans to change the name of the Spring Gardens Shopping Centre have been approved.

The precinct will be renamed The Springs Shopping Centre after planning officers gave the go-ahead to the rebrand.

Signs with the new
name and logo will be
installed in and around the shopping centre.

A spokesman for The Springs Shopping Centre said: “We are pleased that the building will be able to enhance its visibility from the main routes into Buxton with improved and consistent signage.

“Our aim is to make the shopping centre’s offering clearer to shoppers and help encourage more visitors to the town.”

The spokesman was unable to disclose the cost of the changes.

The changes have come under fire from some shoppers.

On Twitter, Angela-KM commented: “What a waste of money.” Lesley Draper added: “It sounds pretty much the same to me and people will carry on calling it ‘the precinct’ anyway.”

The original plans featured the new name and logo on a green background. However, the plans were revised to only feature the name and logo.
