Police spot check taxis in the Dales

Taxi drivers in the Dales have had their vehicles spot-checked for serious defects in a bid to make sure passengers are safe.

Police from Matlock Safer Neighbourhood Team were joined by staff from Derbyshire Dales District Council for the checks on the evening of Friday, March 15.

The drivers were also spoken to about the importance of keeping cars well-maintained and the terms of their taxi licenses.

Sergeant Nick Reason, from the Matlock team, said: “The checks we carried out were to ensure that taxis operating in our area are safe and legal, so customers can rest assured that they are absolutely fine to travel in.

“All of the vehicles were fine and it was a great way for us to chat to drivers about how important it is to keep their cars properly looked after.”

Eileen Tierney, Derbyshire Dales District Council’s licensing and administration manager, said the checks proved that Dales’ taxis are of a “high standard.”
