VANDALS have smashed the climbing frame and set fire to a rope swing in an Amber Valley park.
Amber Valley Borough Council officers believe the children’s play area at Riddings Park near Alfreton was struck between Monday, September 10, and Wednesday September 19.
The park, off Church Street, in Riddings, has undergone a £45,000 renovation which was only completed in March. Some of the equipment was designed to be used by children with disabilities.
Cllr Martin Tomlinson, Cabinet member for Green and Thriving Places to Live, said: “This despicable act of pointless vandalism is beyond belief. The equipment was intended to be used by the whole community and by children of all abilities. The senseless acts of a few mindless people have ruined the fun for the majority.”
Sgt Stacey Hamlett, of Alfreton Police Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “Local police are aware of the problems and are working with Amber Valley Borough Council on resolving the issues. Extra police patrols have been arranged for the Riddings park area over the coming weeks.”
