Police are urging High Peak residents to be vigilant after a number of distraction thefts in the area.

Two men walked into Caffé Nero, in Spring Gardens, last Wednesday and distracted a customer by placing housing adverts over her phone and asking questions about the content.

After the men left, the customer realised her phone was missing and a member of staff chased the men, catching up with them outside and retrieving the phone.

At 5.30pm the same day two men walked into the White Hart Hotel on Market Street, Whaley Bridge, distracted staff by showing them leaflets and stole a set of car keys from behind the bar.

Later that day at 5.55pm what is thought to be the same men entered Wicked World on High Street in Buxton and attempted to steal a mobile phone. The staff realised what was happening and the men left the shop.

There were two similar incidents that happened the week before at The Paper Shop on George Street, Glossop and in Rachel’s Flowers on Market Street, Chapel-en-le-Frith.

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting crime number 21043/14.
