Police are appealing for information and are offering crime prevention advice following attempted burglaries in the Chesterfield area.

At around 10pm on Sunday, June 15, offenders attempted to gain entry through the window of a property on Mansfield Road in Glapwell, Chesterfield.

Items from the window sill were removed and placed outside the property. It is believed that the offenders made off after being disturbed by the occupant moving about their home.

Overnight between 10pm on Sunday, June 15 and 6am on Monday, June 16, offenders climbed over the wall into the garden of a property on Stockley Lane in Glapwell.

Offenders attempted to gain entry through the rear door of the property. Damage was caused, however no entry was gained.

Police believe that the two incidents may be connected and would like to speak to anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area around the time of the crime.

Officers are urging residents to take steps to further protect themselves and their property from opportunists. This includes ensuring that no valuable items are left on display and checking that windows and doors are securely locked before leaving the property or going to be bed.

Other crime prevention steps include ensuring that house and car keys are removed from locks and from view of windows and to consider leaving a light on or using timers if you are going out after dark.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call PC Shaun Chambers on 101. To report a crime anonymously call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
