The hills of the Peak District will be alive with the sound of thundering hooves and people cheering at a racing event.

The Pikehall Harness Racing will take place on July 17 and is expected to pull in a bumper crowd.

The first race of the evening meeting is set to take place at 6pm and the final race will be staged at around 9pm.

Harness racing is a family orientated sport and often features three generations of one family taking part in some form – whether it is owning, training or driving.

Most of the top trainers and drivers attend the Pikehall races and there are usually 15 bookmakers in attendance.

There will also be children’s entertainment, caterers and a licenced bar.

Following the racing the entertainment will continue as well–known female vocalist Vicky Lambert will be singing in the marquee.

The race track is well signposted from Buxton, Ashbourne and Matlock
