PARALYMPIC gold medallist Anthony Kappes was guest of honour at a charity auction held in his hometown Chapel-en-le-Frith last weekend.
Anthony donated a signed shirt for last Saturday’s auction, as well as giving a speech on the night.
The event, held at Rems Cafe Bar, was organised by the Friends of Chapel Memorial Park as part of their ongoing fund-raising for new children’s play equipment in the park.
At the event, Anthony spoke about his childhood riding his bike around the park and how impressed he was with the group’s plans to provide equipment which can be used by both able-bodied and disabled children.
He added: “Being given the opportunity to try something, sometimes get it wrong, to find your limitations and push beyond these limitations, can be very healthy.”
Providing safe and interesting play equipment for children to explore their limitations would be “helping far beyond what you currently realise,” he said.
High Peak MP Andrew Bingham was among those who attended the auction, with professional auctioneer Nigel Ashley from Frank Marshall, performing the official duties. A total of £3,274.00 was raised by the event.
