Phone mast proposal rejected

PROPOSALS for a 14-metre high mobile phone mast on green belt land have been turned down by planners.

Applicants Vodafone Ltd wanted to build the mast site on land close to the junction of Acorn Ridge and Walton Back Lane in Walton.

More than 20 residents objected to the plans – voicing concerns about the mast’s proximity to St John’s Church and a play area on Beeley View.

NE Derbyshire District Council considered the application at its planning committee on July 31.

Members took into account opposition from local people and ruled to refuse planning permission, concluding that the proposed mast was in an inappropriate location and would spoil the character of the green belt land.

The committee’s decision is subject to the usual five day call-in period.
