Derbyshire paramedic Eva Johnson has been awarded a national NHS Employers Flu Fighter Champion Award.
Eva, who works for East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS), was nominated for the award by Jamie Tomlin, EMAS Business Continuity Manager, because of her professional manner and ‘can do’ attitude.
He said: “Eva was a fantastic asset to our flu programme, she helped to make the vaccine accessible to clinical staff, increased uptake, changed attitudes and helped to prevent vaccines from going to waste.”
A work-related injury meant Eva could not go out on the road as an operational resource responding to emergency 999 calls so instead, she worked to assist the EMAS flu programme.
Jamie added: “Despite being based in Derbyshire, Eva travelled as far as Skegness and Northampton to provide flu vaccinations to frontline ambulance staff during their busy shifts.
“It is a challenge vaccinating ambulance crews because they are never in one place for long enough.
“I’m delighted that in addition to the recognition we gave, she has had her efforts recognized nationally by this award.”
Eva was one of five NHS staff shortlisted and was announced winner at a ceremony held in Leeds last week. She will be presented with her award soon.
