Panto stars brought cheer and gifts to young patients in hospital.

The cast of Beauty and the Beast visited children on the Nightingale Ward at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

They were led by S Club 7 pop star Tina Barrett, who plays Beauty in the panto at Chesterfield’s Pomegranate Theatre. She said: “It was just such an amazing experience meeting all the children and giving presents. They were all really happy and excited and everyone had an amazing day. It was a highlight for everyone.”

Hospital staff member Jenny Reaney, a play specialist and team leader, said, “They were absolutely fantastic and it really helped to lift the spirits of our young patients, some of whom had seen the cast in the panto before they came in, or are going to see them shortly.

“The fact that they stayed for so long, talked to the patients, made them laugh and handed out presents was more than we could have wished for and everybody enjoyed it, even the members of staff who didn’t miss the opportunity for a photo and autograph.”

There’s still time to catch the cast in the Beauty and the Beast pantomime which will be at the Pomegranate Theatre until Sunday, January 5, 2014. To book tickets call 01246 345 222 or visit chesterfieldtheatres.co.uk.
