A man has completed his transformation from a civilian into a Royal Navy sailor.

Owen Dart, 20, underwent a ten-week intensive training course at HMS Raleigh in Cornwall.

Owen, a former pupil at Newbold Community School who previously worked as a sales assistant, said: “I joined the Royal Navy to help people and travel – I wanted to do a job which is different from the norm.

“I’ve met some new friends during training and I’ve definitely become more self-sufficient and mature.

“For the future I want to spend as much time as possible at sea and climb the promotion ladder to at least the rank of Chief Petty Officer.”

From day one, trainee Air Engineering Technician Owen Dart was put through his paces, undertaking a series of physical and mental challenges in order to reach the essential standards required by every member of the Royal Navy.
