Nominate top youngsters

THERE’S still time for residents to nominate the area’s most deserving youngsters who could pick up one of Derbyshire County Council’s Young Achiever Awards.

Schools, councils, community leaders and members of the public are being invited to nominate outstanding youngsters for this year’s awards.

The annual celebration – which has been running for 14 years – recognise extraordinary Derbyshire children and young people in a series of categories, including sporting, musical, artistic or academic success and bravery in fighting an illness .

Cllr Barry Lewis, cabinet member for young people, said: “We’ve already started to get nominations in for this year’s awards highlighting some of our young people’s amazing achievements.

“We know there are some very special young people in Derbyshire and I’d like to encourage everyone to think about nominating a young person.”

Nomination forms are being distributed to schools, libraries, councils and other community venues.

In addition, they can be filled in and sent online by visiting www.derbyshire.gov.uk/youngachievers.

Nominations need to be in by tomorrow and a special awards ceremony will take place in Matlock in December.
