DERBYSHIRE police officers will be able to give evidence to courts without leaving the force’s headquarters thanks to new video technology.

Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Constabularies are among 13 forces taking part in a trial announced by Damian Green, justice and policing minister.

Announcing the experiment, Mr Green said that justice would be quicker and more effective as police and court time would be saved.

Mr Green said: “We want the justice system to respond more effectively to the needs of victims, witnesses and professionals.

“Video technology is vital in this and I’m extremely pleased that Derbyshire will be rolling out this technology during 2013.

“This is one part of our drive to create a swifter and more efficient justice system for all.”
