A new sports pavilion in a Derbyshire town has finally been revealed.
Developers St Modwen unveiled the long-awaited facility – which will be home to a number of local sports teams – in Clay Cross.
It is part of a 204-acre site, formerly known as Silkston, off Market Street, which will include up to 980 new homes, a pub and a supermarket.
Mick Holmes, of Clay Cross Parish Council, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the new facility, which will provide local sports teams with a designated area in which to come together and participate in sports and social activities.
“The facility will be a well-utilised venue for people living in the area as well as for new residents coming to the planned residential development.”
Councillor Graham Baxter, leader of North East Derbyshire District Council, added: “This facility will support the sense of community and inclusion that already exists in the area and we look forward to seeing the rest of the development take shape creating much needed new homes and opportunities for employment.”
David Dodge, of St Modwen, added: “The creation of a modern facility for use by local residents and sports teams will really support the existing sense of community in the area.”
