MYSTERY surrounds the future of a prestigious Disley hotel.
Gym members have voiced concern over the possible closure of the Moorside Grange Hotel and Spa after reading a letter – seen by the Buxton Advertiser – which states that its health and fitness club could close later this month.
But owners Stardon (Moorside) Ltd have refused to comment.
The letter talks of an impending agreement on the sale of the hotel.
It states: “Should this agreement progress to completion we have been advised that the new owner intends to take procession of the business on January 22.”
This would see the hotel’s health and fitness club closing on January 21, according to the letter.
It adds: “We have taken the decision to share this update with you despite the incomplete nature of the news as we recognise the need to keep you informed of developments in this very difficult time.”
The owners previously said that hotel guest numbers were down one per cent and room prices had fallen 32 per cent over the last five years.
In August, Cheshire East Council granted planning permission allowing Stardon (Moorside) Ltd to use the hotel as some form of “residential institution”.
Planning officer Emma Tutton said: “Despite local rumours, it is not for a prison.” She said that a “residential institution” could be a care home, a boarding school or a conference centre.
Matt Stray, of Chardon Management Ltd, which operates the hotel, said Stardon (Moorside) Ltd did not want to comment at this stage.
