Chiefs are to hold another public meeting on controversial plans to axe scores of ambulance stations.
Just one person attended a consultation meeting in Chesterfield last month over East Midlands Ambulance Service’s (EMAS) proposals.
Now, following pressure from Chesterfield MP Toby Perkins who blasted the “shambolic” meeting, EMAS bosses revealed a new debate will take place in Chesterfield Royal Hospital’s lecture theatre at 6pm tonight.
EMAS is proposing to close 16 ambulance stations across Derbyshire, including those in Ripley, Alfreton, Matlock and Bakewell.
Bosses said so-called “super stations” would be built in Chesterfield and Derby and crews would be based at community ambulance posts – helping to improve response times.
But Mr Perkins said: “These proposals have the potential to affect anyone who calls an ambulance in the East Midlands, so I strongly encourage people to come forward and scrutinise the plans.”
