Matlock store scoops award

SHOPPERS in Matlock can rest-assured they’re getting a first-rate service after one convenience was judged the best independent merchandiser in the UK and Ireland.

In early October, judges from the Independent Achievers Academy paid a visit to the Londis store on Limetree Road, Matlock.

And despite the fact that store manager Trevor Wright only entered the competition for some ‘constructive criticism’ and advice – judges were blown away with the superb service the store offered.

Owing to the glowing report, employees from the Londis team headed to London on November 25 where they scooped the award.

Trevor said: “I honestly didn’t think we would win, but the judges obviously thought we were of a standard.

“Since becoming manager, though, I have worked hard to get my team to the highest level and they know exactly what’s expected of them.

“Whether it’s changing the displays around, keeping the store interesting and different, or being aware of all our products and service – we all work hard to keep the customers happy.”

While the store may run like a well-oiled machine, there’s still time plenty of time for banter and the team share an extremely good morale.

Cashier Joe Worthy said: “We always have a laugh at work and I think that shows in the service.”

Trevor certainly has no intentions of sitting on his laurels after scooping such a prestigious accolade, though.

He said: “We’ll keep on working hard and we’ll keep on entering the competitions.”
