An officer from Matlock Safer Neighbourhood Team is leaping online to become the Derbyshire Dales’ first police Twitter champion.
PC Dave Naylor will be tweeting from the streets to keep the people of Matlock up to date on what the team is up to.
Followers of his profile – @MatlockSNT – can see short messages posted directly from Dave about a wide range of topics, including news, crime appeals, operations and campaigns the team is leading, public meetings officers are holding or attending and any crime prevention tips.
Members of the public will also be able to communicate with Dave by sending him tweets or direct messages, to ask about any neighbourhood issues they have.
Dave said: “We’re here to serve the public and make sure they get all the information they need about policing on their streets.
“More people are heading online these days so I felt it was important to get involved with Twitter and offer people that extra way to talk to us.
“It’s a great way for us to keep people updated with what’s going on in Matlock.”
The @MatlockSNT Twitter profile is the first to launch in the Derbyshire Dales and follows 17 others that are already active across the county.
Derbyshire police launched its own Twitter site in 2009 and uses it to share news, appeals and information with more than 15,000 followers.
The force also recently launched a Derby County profile to keep football fans updated with any policing issues and information surrounding Rams matches.
The Matlock team and all other SNT Twitter profiles will appeal for information on crimes through Twitter but you should always report crimes by calling 101 or 999 in an emergency.
