Police are appealing for information after a man was assaulted outside the Cotes Park Inn in Somercotes.
At about 8.30pm on Saturday, the victim was assaulted by a man who was thought to have been previously drinking in the Nottingham Road pub.
The 35-year-old suffered a cut requiring several stitches.
The offender is described as white with a large build and dark hair.
