A JAIL sentence hangs over a boozy north Derbyshire man who assaulted his then-fiancee in the street.
Tiffany Neep was confronted with abuse from Wayne Phillips in Clune Street, Clowne, following a night out with friends.
She ran to a friend’s house and he followed, grabbing her arms from behind and pushing her into the road, causing her to graze both elbows.
Phillips, 27, was arrested and he told police their one-year relationship was “rocky”.
Ms Neep stated that she was scared of him.
Phillips, of Rose Avenue, Clowne, admitted the July 23 assault and breaching a two-year conditional discharge imposed last September for assaulting a neighbour.
He had a previous conviction for assaulting a partner.
Presiding magistrate Paul Beard imposed a 12-week jail term but suspended it for 18 months. He gave Phillips an 18-month probation supervision order, including domestic violence and alcohol treatment programmes.
Phillips also received a five-year restraining order, banning him from contacting Ms Neep, and he must pay her £150 compensation.
Denney Lau, for Phillips, said drink played a big part in the offence and he regretted the assault.
