THE HEARTBROKEN family of football fan Connor Short who lost his life in a tragic road traffic collision are determined to honour his life with a soccer-themed funeral.

Apprentice landscape gardener Connor, 16, of Uppertown, Ashover, was a keen Derby County FC fan and he had been returning from football training when he was fatally injured in a road traffic collision at the junction of Birkin Lane and the A632 Matlock Road, at Kelstedge.

Simon Moody, his mother Sarah’s partner, said: “We’re hoping to have a football-themed funeral because he was football-mad and it was his big passion.

“We want to celebrate his life and do not want this to be a sombre affair because so many of his friends are still so young.”

The funeral is due to take place from 11am, on Monday, October 8, at Ashover Church, followed by cremation at Brimington Crematorium.

Mourners will be encouraged to wear their favourite football team colours and no flowers are requested. Connor also leaves a brother Joseph, grandmothers Margaret Monatgue and Joan Gadsby, uncles, aunties and cousins.
