THE DERBYSHIRE Times is gearing up to raise £25,000 for Chesterfield’s Ashgate Hospice to mark the charity’s 25th anniversary.
To get the ball rolling DT staff joined other teams from various businesses to take part in the Ashgate Hospice pub quiz night at Chesterfield FC’s Proact stadium where everyone raised hundreds of pounds. The paper also launched its own fundraising ale at the White Swan, Chesterfield, with Staveley-based brewery Raw.
DT editor James Mitchinson, who launched the Derbyshire Times Hospice Appeal last month, and reporter Jon Cooper have already begun training for the DT’s Ashgate Hospice sponsored cycle challenge in July with plans for a smaller additional route to encourage younger riders and families to saddle up.
James said: “We’re appealing for our readers to get on board with our £25,000 challenge by enjoying the Derbyshire Times ale and by setting their sights on taking part in the DT’s charity cycle ride in the summer.
“There will be other DT schemes and events to boost the coffers this year and if anyone out there wants to raise money with their own DT inspired event let us know and we will help publicise it.”
Details about entry for the DT and Polaris bike ride, which raised about £10,000 for the hospice last year, will be publicised later in the year.
In the meantime, readers are being urged to come up with their own fundraising ideas too and the more unusual the more coverage they will get in the paper with pictures and regular updates to help us beat our target and boost donations.
Anyone wishing to publicise events or make donations to Ashgate Hospice via the Derbyshire Times’ Hospice Appeal can call reporter Jon Cooper on (01246) 504524, email jon.cooper@derbyshiretimes.co.uk or can write to the Derbyshire Times, 37 Station Road, Chesterfield S41 7XD.
