Icy conditions blamed for Long Hill crash

ICY conditions have been blamed for a crash on the A5004 last night (Wednesday)

The collision involving a Peugeot 306 occurred on Long Hill, at about 10.30pm.

Fire crews from Whaley Bridge and New Mills were called to the scene near to Fernilee. The driver of the vehicle was taken to Stepping Hill Hospital.

The incident was one of over 20 reported to police resulting from icy conditions.

A police spokeswoman, who urged motorists to take extra care, said roads had been gritted. “Water has been coming off the fields and washing the grit away and then freezing.”
