A horse was killed after a collision in Barlborough.

Three horses escaped from a field on Renishaw Hill at 8.20pm on Friday, January 4.

As the horses ran down the road in to the village one was clipped by a Citroen Picasso car travelling up the hill.

The horses continued to travel down the hill, running on both sides of the road and one was struck by a Ford Fiesta.

Both cars were damaged in the collision.

A horse was then killed during a collision with a third car travelling up the hill.

The driver of the Vauxhaul Astra suffered chest and back pains. He was cut out of the vehicle by the fire service and taken to Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

A woman passenger suffered cuts and bruises. Two children in the back of the vehicle were not injured.

The road was closed while the car and the body of the horse were recovered.

It reopened at 11.45pm.

The horses owner was traced and returned the two horses, which were not seriously injured, to their field.

Witnesses should call police on 101.
