DING dong!
Derbyshire came alive with the sound of bells this morning as folk helped ring in the Olympic Games.
At exactly 8.12am – precisely 12 hours before the start of the Games – chimes swept through the county as scores of people rang church bells, car horns, door buzzers and mobile phone ringtones for three minutes as part of a national music project to celebrate the summer spectacle.
Rod Ismay and other Post Office workers got involved by ringing hand bells.
Rod, who works at the Future Walk offices on West Bars, Chesterfield, said: “It went great.

“We rang some nice music including a solo Chariots of Fire piece.”
Other residents and local churches took part in the event while Chatsworth House sounded their 19th century bell.
The quirky project, entitled Work No 1197, was the idea of Turner Prize-winning artist and musician Martin Creed.
He said: “This was an event by people and for people.
“On the morning of the opening of the Games it was a massive signal that something is happening.”
