Two flypasts from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight are among the highlights of this year’s Tideswell Wakes Week.

The opening weekend will be marked with a Spitfire flypast on Sunday June 22, culminating in the traditional waggle of the wings to signal a wave from Flight Lieutenant Anthony Parkinson.

A second flypast will take place the following Saturday, June 28, when a 1944 Hawker Hurricane will mark the beginning of the main carnival parade.

As the musicians, revellers and colourful floats prepare to set off for the parade, Wing Commander Justin Helliwell RAF will lead the way in the skies above the village.

Carnival day will also feature a market, funfair and torchlight procession.

The parade begins at 3pm from Chantry Lane, winding its way through the village with music from Buxton APC Band, the City of Sheffield Pipe Band and Dronfield St John Ambulance band.

The week-long programme also features the blessing of the wells and crowning of Tideswell Wakes Royalty at 3pm on June 21, the Inter Inns 5k run from The Star at 7pm on June 23, and a car treasure hunt at 6pm on June 29.
