Festive lighting events

A RECORD 70 trees will be lit in Chapel-en-le-Frith with the traders association and the parish council joining forces to make it a white Christmas.

Festivities on Monday, November 26, will start at 6.30pm at Town End Methodist Church when the traders tree is lit. A procession will make its way up to the Market Place for the main tree to be lit by the carnival royalty at 7pm.

There will be children’s rides, carol singing and complimentary mince pies and hot punch.

l The New Mills Christmas Lights will be switched on by Mike Taylor of New Mills Junior Football Club, one of the Olympic torch bearers, on Monday, November 26.

Entertainment will be provided by New Mills Band and local school children. New Mills Wives group will serve mulled wine and mince pies.

Many shops will be staying open late, New Mills Samba Band will be playing and part of High Street and Market Street will be closed to traffic for the children’s funfair.
