A MATLOCK motorist who collided with a parked car had drunk almost double the legal limit, a court heard.
Police were called to Bank Road at 3.22am on August 19 and saw Joel Stackhouse’s Volkswagen Golf had struck a Volvo.
Stackhouse and his passengers had got out of the damaged Golf which was in the middle of the road.
Helen Griffiths, prosecuting, told Chesterfield magistrates he smelled strongly of alcohol and said he had his last drink about an hour earlier.
He was arrested after failing a roadside breath test and went on to give a reading of 68mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath, the limit being 35mcgs.
Stackhouse, 25, told police he had parked his car and walked to a barbecue at an address in Artists Corner.
“He said he walked back to Bank Road and decided to drive home even though it was a short distance and only a few minutes’ walk.
“He couldn’t explain why he had collided with the parked car, which had rear offside damage,” said Mrs Griffiths.
Stackhouse, of New Street, Matlock, admitted drink-driving. He was fined £265, with £85 costs, and handed an 18-month road ban, to be cut to 14 months if he passes a drink-driving rehabiliation course.
He told the court: “I regret my decision to drive.”
