SNOW and ice struck the county as commuters woke to sub-zero temperatures and about 2cm to 5cm of snow this morning, Monday, January 14.
Following a Met Office UK wide Amber weather warning for people to “be prepared”, Derbyshire commuters appeared to have taken to the roads earlier than usual during rush-hour with many of the county’s main roads relatively clear and well gritted by Derbyshire County Council.
However, there were reports of how vehicles ended up in a ditch off Chesterfield Road, Barlborough, following a collision during the onset of the snow.
Forecasters have continued to issue an Amber weather warning with temperatures due to stay the same during the next few days with the prospect of more wintry showers.
As the weather takes a hold with more snow forecast during today, January 14, the Peak District is expected to become one of the region’s worst hit areas with as much as 5cm to 10cm of snow expected.
