DERBYSHIRE commuters are being warned to prepare for difficult journeys during Monday, January 14, when snow is expected across the Midlands.
Gritters from Derbyshire County Council have already begun preparing the roads and frontline health services across Derbyshire are on alert to help protect vulnerable patients in their own homes as cold weather is predicted over the coming days.
With freezing temperatures forecast and the possibility of snow in some areas in the days ahead, gritter drivers will be on standby around the clock to help keep the county’s roads clear.
The council is also urging residents to look out for more vulnerable neighbours or anyone they see struggling or in distress during any bad weather.
Following a Met Office warning temperatures have continued to fall.
Snow which has fallen in the north of the UK is expected to spread southwards with heavy downpours in northern England and the Midlands.
Derbyshire’s neighbouring county Yorkshire could face up to 10cm of snow according to forecasts.
However, forecasters say any snow is expected to clear by the end of week despite some continued snow showers.
The AA and RAC have warned drivers to wrap up and take supplies with them on any journeys incase they face delayed journeys or getting stranded.
