An emergency call that caused the police to deploy their armed response unit may have been a hoax.

Officers were called to the Peterdale Road area of Brimington at 7.42pm last night (Friday, July 4) following a report of a person with a firearm.

Inspector Daron Abbotts said: “We have continued further enquiries and spoke to a number of witnesses.

“We are quite satisfied that no firearm has been used and we are treating the incident as malicious.”

He added the force would now be pursuing the person who made the call.
