It’s showtime!

Bumper crowds are flocking to the Peak District for the opening day of Bakewell Show.

Our photographers have been capturing the fun-filled action so far and to see a slideshow of stunning snaps just click on the link in the right-hand panel.

More than 60,000 revellers are expected to attend the two-day summer extravaganza for an exciting mix of family-themed attractions and agricultural delights.

Show manager Janet Bailey said: “We were a bit disappointed to see the grim weather this morning but we know that come rain or shine people will have a fantastic time.”

Angela Stevens has travelled all the way from Australia to be part of the much-loved event, now in its 182nd year.

Speaking before entering Bakewell Showground, the 36-year-old said: “I’m so excited.

“Nothing was going to stop me attending – not even a 24-hour flight.”

This year’s spectacular boasts an array of attractions including daredevil motorcyclists and a dancing robot as well as the usual horticultural exhibits, dog shows and livestock contests.

And visitors have been urged to check out a stunning wall painting depicting the many delights on offer at Bakewell Show.

The mural – made up of pictures drawn by arty Derbyshire pupils – takes pride of place in the main meeting room at the show’s new £369,000 offices, which opened in May.
