TWO cars were involved in a collision which left two people hospitalised and forced police to close a stretch of road.

At 7.50am today, a Subaru Impreza and a Suzuki Swift crashed on the Newhaven stretch of the A5012 near the Hollybush Inn.

The passenger in the Subaru had to be cut free from the wreckage by fire crews.

The road was closed at the Elton crossroads in both directions at 8am while emergency services made the scene safe.

A police spokesman confirmed the road was set to reopen shortly.
