Courts use video–links

With the new year comes a new way of dispensing justice, as Derbyshire rolls out video technology in its court service.

The county has become one of 13 areas in England and Wales to benefit from the new technology, which will see court appearances taking place via video–link to save the police and court time.

Justice Minister Damian Green said: “We want the justice system to respond more effectively to the needs of victims, witnesses and professionals.

“Video technology is vital in this and I am extremely pleased that Derbyshire will be rolling out this technology during 2013.

“This is one part of our drive to create a swifter and more efficient justice system for all.”
