POLICE are reminding motorists to make sure they leave their cars secure even if just for a few minutes.
The warning comes after a van which had been left with the keys in the ignition was stolen in Clowne.
Police told how the Renault Kangoo was taken at around 7.45pm, on Friday, October 19, from a yard off Mansfield Road.
The van was recovered the following day by Nottinghamshire Police in the Ollerton area.
PCSO Simon Galley of the Clowne Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We would advise drivers to always leave their vehicles secure, even for just a few moments and to not leave the engine running and keys in the ignition when the vehicle is unattended.
“I would also ask that anyone with information, or who may have seen anything suspicious, to contact police.”
Motorists are advised to:
Not leave the engine running whilst unattended or the keys in the ignition
Always lock your car before leaving unattended
Do not leave the keys in an obvious place such as the glove box
Remove all valuables from the vehicle wherever possible
Whenever possible leave your car in a secure garage or in a well lit location
Consider additional security including alarm, window etching, steering lock, smart water or tracker device.
