POLICE have upped patrols after a rise in thefts of timber and the illegal felling of trees around New Mills.
Derbyshire County Council has reported several incidents of sites being targeted by thieves who have taken timber left for animal habitats.
And trees have been chopped down and cut up along the Sett Valley Trail in Thornsett and on private land around New Mills.
PCSO Lee Baker said: “If you see anyone removing wood in suspicious circumstances, call 101 immediately.”
