Cops raid home and net drug abuser

A CHESTERFIELD dad caught with three types of drugs claimed they had helped him to get off heroin.

Police raided Dean Evans’ former address in Kirkstone Road, Newbold, and noticed a strong smell of cannabis.

He produced a tin from under a cushion and told officers it contained cannabis, amphetamine and ecstasy.

Helen Griffiths, prosecuting, said: “He said the drugs were for his own use. He was a former heroin addict and he found the combination assisted him when he came off heroin. They were all in very small amounts.”

Jobless Evans, 33, of Highfield Lane, Newbold, admitted three charges of possessing drugs on July 18 and was fined £215 with £85 costs.

Jon Barber, defending, said: “He was using heroin and to his credit he managed to avoid offending. He was placed on a methadone prescription and was being weaned off it. He has occasionally used other things until he gets used to life completely drug-free.”
