Clowne and Barlborough suffered power blackout

RESIDENTS in large parts of Clowne and Barlborough suffered a widespread night time power cut as house and street lights went out and plunged the area into darkness.

Police told how the power cut affected parts of Barlborough and mainly Clowne, from about 5.30pm, on Monday evening, December 3, but its beat officers continued street patrols to check properties remained secure.

Western Power Distribution, which distributes power across the affected area, stated that a power cut had affected about 2,500 customers and the area suffered a blackout for about two hours but according to some residents other properties did not get power back until after 9pm.

A Western Power Distribution spokesman said: “There was a fault on an underground cable. The customers affected had power restored in stages and the majority had their power back on within two hours.

“A permanent repair is being done to the cable today and a small number of customers may have a momentary loss of power as we switch them back on to the main supply.”

Defiant Clowne Parish Council continued with proceedings in torchlight during its monthly public meeting yesterday evening, December 3, despite the blackout.
