SCHOOLS representing Chesterfield swept the board at a Royal sports competition attended by the Queen and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
The three schools including Old Hall, Ashgate Croft and Hady Primary, did no harm to the Royal opinion of Chesterfield after beating schools from Nottinghamshire on June 13, at Vernon Park, Nottingham, as part of The Field in Trust Diamond Jubilee Legacy Programme.
Sharon Stone, Headteacher at Old Hall School, said: “It was an absolutely fantastic day and an honour to be invited.”
Primary school students from the schools each took place in a different competition after being selected to represent Derbyshire.
Old Hall won in the cricket match, Hady Primary in athletics and Ashgate Croft were victorious in the special schools athletics event.
Each school was granted a trophy which engraved ‘In the presence of her majesty The Queen and their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’, followed by the name of the events.
Ms Stone added: “It was a lovely day for the children to win and a lovely day for the children to play.”
Fields in Trust is a national charity that protects the access to free, local outdoor space for sport and recreation and has been supported by the Queen for a long time.
